Pool cages and screen enclosures in Punta Gorda, FL.

New pool cages, screened lanais and full enclosure replacements for Punta Gorda homes, from Punta Gorda Isles and Burnt Store Isles to the newer communities toward Burnt Store Road.

A harbor town that knows what wind does to a cage

Punta Gorda has more reason than most places to take screen enclosures seriously. Hurricane Charley came ashore here in August 2004 as a Category 4 storm, and pool cages across the city were flattened or torn away. Much of what stands today was rebuilt after Charley, and Hurricane Ian tested the area again in 2022.

Many of the enclosures put up in that rebuilding are now twenty years old. The aluminum is usually still sound, but screws, anchors and the bases of the uprights have spent two decades in salt air off Charlotte Harbor, and the screen has been replaced at least once on most of them. That is the point where homeowners start asking whether another re-screen is worth it or the whole cage should go.

We build new enclosures and replace tired or storm-damaged ones across Punta Gorda and the surrounding Charlotte County communities, with no deposit and a lifetime workmanship guarantee.

Canal homes in Punta Gorda Isles and Burnt Store Isles

The sailboat-water canal neighborhoods are where Punta Gorda enclosures work hardest. A cage on a canal lot faces open water and the wind that comes across the harbor with it, and on a corner or end lot it can catch that wind from two sides. Frame size, member spacing and how the uprights are anchored to the deck all have to account for that exposure.

Waterfront cages also face the most salt. When we replace one, we look at where the old enclosure failed, whether that was fasteners, the base of the uprights or the connection to the house, because the new one will face the same conditions. If the fascia the cage hangs from has rotted, we handle the fascia repair in the same job.

  • Frame and anchoring sized to the engineered drawings
  • Corrosion points on the old cage checked before we build
  • Super gutter tied in so roof water clears the cage
  • No-see-um screen for walls that face the water

Re-screen or replace a cage from the Charley rebuild?

If the frame is straight, the doors close properly and the anchors are tight, new screen is the cheaper fix, and a pool cage re-screen will give an older cage years more use. We will tell you if that is all your enclosure needs.

Replacement makes sense when the problems are in the structure itself: uprights corroded at the base, a frame that shifted in Ian and no longer sits square, or doors that will not latch no matter how they are adjusted. Putting new screen on a frame like that only buys a few years, and a new enclosure built to current code is better value.

Permits in Punta Gorda and Charlotte County

Homes inside the City of Punta Gorda, which includes Punta Gorda Isles and Burnt Store Isles, are permitted through the city. Homes outside city limits, in Port Charlotte and the rest of unincorporated Charlotte County, are permitted by the county. Either way, a new or replacement enclosure needs a building permit and engineered drawings that meet the Florida Building Code’s wind requirements.

Many of the canal and golf communities also have deed restrictions or an association that approves frame color and roof style. It is worth having those rules in hand when you get quotes, and checking that each quote says whether the permit and engineering are included.

How it works

From a measured deck to a finished Punta Gorda cage.

Look at the old cage

We measure the deck and the house wall and check where any existing enclosure is failing, so the new one does not repeat it.

A written price

You get the price in writing before work starts, and we will beat any written quote for the same scope.

Built, then paid

Our crew builds and screens the enclosure to its drawings. Nothing is due until it is finished, and the workmanship is guaranteed for life.

Good to know

Punta Gorda pool cage questions.

A canal-lot cage built for harbor wind costs more than a sheltered one inland, and deck size, height, roof style and doors move the price too. We measure, then put a free price in writing. Show us a lower written quote for the same cage and we will beat it.

Inside city limits, including Punta Gorda Isles and Burnt Store Isles, the City of Punta Gorda issues the permit. Outside the city, Charlotte County does. Both need engineered drawings that meet the Florida Building Code wind requirements.

Not necessarily. Many post-Charley cages are still structurally sound and only need new screen. If the uprights are corroded at the base, the frame has racked out of square, or the doors no longer latch, replacement is usually the better value.

On the canals, most owners choose no-see-um mesh for the walls, since the biting midges along the harbor are small enough to pass through regular screen. For the roof, ordinary mesh lets more air through and is cheaper to replace.

Yes. We cover Punta Gorda and the surrounding Charlotte County area. Port Charlotte homes are permitted through Charlotte County rather than the city.

We replace it with the cage. The super gutter carries the roof’s water across the enclosure, and we install seamless gutters on the rest of the house, so the drainage works as one system.

I called several local gutter companies, and WWJD Gutters was the only one to get back to me promptly — same day. They showed up at 8:30 AM and in three hours ripped off old gutters, installed new gutters all the way around the house, repaired soffit, and even removed a satellite dish. They cleaned up the workspace before leaving. I have absolutely no complaints.

I reached out to several companies and he was the first to actually come out and give me a quote when he said he would. Great fair price. Russell even took care of some minor soffit issues for me while doing the gutter estimate.

Thanks to the owner Russell and his crew for going the extra mile to find a gutter metal supplier to match my new standing-seam metal roof color. Great job and price — both my wife and myself are very satisfied. From the Isles of Capri, Naples FL.
