Sagging gutters are usually a fascia problem
When a homeowner calls about a gutter that has pulled away from the house, the gutter is often fine. What has failed is the board it was screwed into. Wet timber loses its grip on a fastener, the hanger works loose under the weight of a full trough, and the run starts to drop at one end.
Re-screwing that gutter into the same soft wood buys a few months at best. The screw has nothing to bite. This is why we look at the fascia any time a gutter is sagging, rather than tightening it up and taking the call again next season.
It also explains a repair pattern people find strange at first: we sometimes take more gutter down than the damaged section, because the sound board has to extend past the failure on both sides for the new run to hang true.

Finding where the water actually got in
Rot is a symptom. Something put water on that board and kept it there, and if we replace the timber without fixing the cause you will be looking at the same repair in a few years.
The usual culprits are a gutter that overflows at one corner because the pitch is wrong or the downspout is blocked, a missing drip edge letting roof runoff track back behind the board, an end cap that has lost its seal, or a valley dumping far more water into one spot than that section of gutter can take.

Aluminum wrap over sound timber
Once the board is sound, wrapping it in aluminum coil puts a weather skin over the timber so the sun and rain stop working on it directly. It also gives you a clean, colour-matched finish that does not need repainting every few years, which is worth something on a two-storey run.
Wrap is not a repair on its own, and that is worth being blunt about. Aluminum over rotted timber hides the problem beautifully while it keeps rotting underneath, and we have opened up plenty of pretty wrapped fascia to find pulp behind it. The wood has to be right first.

The cheapest time to repair fascia is while the gutters are already off, which in practice means during a gutter replacement. Doing it afterwards means paying to remove a system that was just installed. When we quote a replacement we check the board as part of the estimate and price any repair alongside it, so there are no mid-job surprises.
