Ventilation is the whole point
An attic works on airflow. Hot air leaves through ridge or roof vents up top, and replacement air has to come in from somewhere lower. That somewhere is your soffit. Block it, panel over it with solid stock, or let it fill with paint and debris, and the whole system stalls.
A stalled attic in Southwest Florida gets brutally hot, and that heat pushes down into your living space and straight onto your cooling bill. Moisture is the second problem: humid air with nowhere to go condenses on the underside of the roof deck, and over enough seasons that is how sheathing and insulation get ruined quietly.

Why aluminum in this climate
Older Southwest Florida homes often have plywood or timber soffit, sometimes with a vent strip cut into it. It looks fine until humidity and a leak get behind it, and then it delaminates, sags and provides a soft edge for wildlife to work on.
Aluminum does not rot, does not feed mould and does not soften when it gets wet. It handles the heat cycle without warping and it holds paint colour far longer than timber does in this sun. It is also light, which matters when it is being fixed to an eave rather than a wall.

Closing the door on wildlife
Almost every attic intrusion we get called about came in along the roofline. Rats and squirrels need a surprisingly small gap, birds will work a loose panel edge wider, and wasps only need a sheltered void. A failing soffit gives all of them the same opening.
New panels, properly channelled at both edges and fastened at correct spacing, take that opening away. Where a corner or a return has been chewed or torn open, we close it back to solid material rather than covering the hole and hoping.
One order-of-operations note: if something is living in the attic right now, get it removed first. Sealing an animal inside creates a worse problem than the one you started with, and we will always tell you that rather than take the job that day.

We take down the failed soffit, look at what is behind it, and deal with any wet or damaged framing before new panels go up. That inspection is the part that gets skipped by anyone quoting a suspiciously low number, and it is where the real problems live.
Then the new channel goes in, panels are cut to the eave and fitted, and the run is finished at the corners and returns. Old material leaves with us. Most homes are a one-day job, longer if there is framing to repair or the eaves are unusually high.
